The first study tour was held in Girona, Catalonia in February and looked at the natural hazards facing Mediteranean forests. Members of all the partner regions saw how fire, pests and drought were impacting the region on a two day tour.

New challenges to the all important cork forests – which still produce most of the corks for the sparkling wine of Europe – were explained by the region’s forestry experts.

Wildfires – both prevention and recovery - are being managed in novel new ways and new techniques are being used to combat increased pest activity because of extreme weather conditions.
