International Conference - Barcelona 6-7 October 2009

Showcasing the work so far
The conference provided the platform to explain the major work being carried out already by each regional forest sector to prepare for change and multifunctionality and provide new opportunities for trees to help with climate change mitigation. It also highlighted the key role that forests can play in improving the regional environment by reducing natural risks and increasing carbon sequestration.
Seven of the latest developments were showcased by leading stakeholders from each region – giving just a taste of the opportunities that FUTUREforest plans to put together so as to provide politicians and policy makers with clear messages on how our forests can contribute to key issues.
On Wednesday 7 October the Forestry Ministers of each of the regions explained their Government’s plans to put trees and woodlands at the core of future environmental and regional development policies.
A vital part of the day was bringing environmentalists and foresters, private and public forest owners together to discover how they can work better towards common goals on climate change.
